Government considering new bans for employment services providers

The Albanese Government has committed to developing an employment services system "that employers want to use", and is open to blocking service providers from referring jobseekers to their own training programs.

As reported last year, the House Select Committee on Workforce Australia Employment Services recommended sweeping changes to the way employment services are delivered in Australia, including partly moving away from the private provider model and rebuilding the public sector Commonwealth Employment Service.

"There is a lot we can learn from the strength-based approaches used by social enterprise, including how to fit jobs to people's circumstances. Better meeting the workforce needs of employers and industry benefits everyone," Employment Minister Tony Burke says...
